IEA TAFE Hosts A Successful Open Day
With IEA TAFE now offering all their 18 programs over a one semester (6 month) time frame, the College now has two intakes a year.
The Open Day for the Semester Two intake was held on Saturday the 2nd of June at the Ela Beach Campus, Port Moresby. All TAFE departments put on a very informative and colourful demonstration of what programs IEA TAFE have on offer, and what these qualifications can lead to.
TAFE Manager Phil Oakley was clearly pleased with the outcome of the day’s events. “Today we have handed out over 300 applications and program flyers to potential candidates and families, and we have received a number of firm applications completed on the day. Our Hospitality Department for example, put on an excellent working display. The Certificate III in Hospitality Commercial Cookery students showed off their work skills in the kitchen, and the front-of-house students demonstrated their table arrangement and restaurant management skills. Our IT, Finance, Business and Children’s Services teams were busy throughout the day assisting those who came, discussing the programs on offer, and what employment outcomes a TAFE qualification can create”.
As this is the first time that IEA TAFE has commenced programs in the July semester, potential numbers, without an influx of school leavers, is an unknown quantity. TAFE however is confident that with growing awareness in the broader community of Vocational Education and Training in industry, Semester Two - 2012 will again see a further growth in enrolment numbers.
