Every person starting in their first job, should never accept that as the only thing that they will do for the rest of their lives, because there is so much more each person can achieve. This was the message driven home to graduating IEA TAFE students by the Member for Kandep and Guest of Honour at the 8th IEA TAFE Ela Beach’s graduation ceremony on Friday the 20th of July 2012.

Hon. Don PolyeHon. Don Polye - Keynote Speaker

“My challenge to you is to think beyond that first job because with hard work there is so much more that you can achieve for your self – for your family. Your first job should be the first step in your journey,” Polye said.

Polye also urged the graduands to use what they have learnt to enrich and empower their lives and that of those around them.

He said he was honoured to be at the TAFE graduation ceremony because education for work and education for jobs are his passions and because he can see that IEA TAFE is an educational organisation focused on improving the lives of Papua New Guineans through hands on training.

Polye also went on to say “The skills that you have learnt here at IEATAFE give you graduates real opportunities for work and therefore for life. My challenge to you is to take this opportunity - the product of your hard work-  take it as just the first step in your journey. Having gained a qualification you have the opportunity of a job – but don’t stop because your first job is just that".

For the professional graduands today is about using your new skills and training to improve and progress in your current vocation. Always remember life is full of opportunities. As graduands you have all seized the first of those opportunities. I congratulated and encourage you to keep aiming high because you can all achieve so much more.”
